That sense of closeness, the apparent lack of preparation and the feeling that you’re watching something spontaneous create a connection that many traditional productions simply can’t achieve.

Behind the name Whiteplace_1 (白寺) is an independent Chinese photographer about whom very little biographical information is available. This discretion appears entirely deliberate: there are no grand statements, interviews or many clues about the person behind the camera. Here, the images take center stage.

His work moves between contemporary artistic portraiture, nudity and fetish fantasy infused with elements of BDSM and body art. However, his photographs aren’t intended to document any particular practice, but rather to construct visual scenes in which the body becomes part of a performance.
